Unable to add Nest to Google Home account, although initially registered device with google account.

If you already "registered" your Nest Learning Thermostat with your Google account, why are you trying to add it in the Google Home app? It should already be there. Are you by any chance trying to add it to a different Google account? And what happens when you try to add it?

Hello. It is not showing up in my Home app, despite using the same account to register!
When i try to register, it goes to the page where it asks for the last four digits of the serial number, but does not have any place to type the numbers!!

This has happened to other customers. Some have been able to complete the install by using the Google Nest app instead:

Thanks. Yes i managed to install it using the Nest app bit it's a shame i can't add it to Home. I guess this is where Apple beats Google... Simplicity.

Hi folks,
@MplsCustomer, thanks for the help!
@Taurus, thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with pairing your Nest Thermostat to the app. To isolate the issue, could you check if there's another home structure on your Google Home app?
Let us know how it goes.
Thanks,
Edward

Hi @EdwardT , no, there is no other structure. I just started using the home app so nothing has been added.

Hi Taurus,
Thanks for the response. Were you getting any message during the setup when you tried to pair it on the Google Home app?
Thanks,
Edward

Hi. No, i don't get any messages. It just gets stuck at the screen where it is supposed to find the nest and add it.

Hi Taurus,
Thanks for clarifying. I would suggest resetting the connection of your Nest Thermostat to your account before trying to set it up again. You can follow the steps on this link.
Let us know how it goes.
Thanks,
Edward

You are you logging onto the Google Nest app and the Google Home app with the same Google account. Are you also accessing the same Google Nest "home" in each app? (I've seen at least one other recent post where the thermostat appears in the Google Nest app but not in the Google Home app; maybe there's a problem on Google Nest's servers.)
10-08-2022 08:32 AM
Hi. I believe I am, but there appears to be some issue. A number of people are facing issues, it's a shame.
Thanks

We don't have more than one "home", but below is how it's supposed to work. Except for a defect, it seems that should be the only reason you can't see the thermostat in the Google Home app.
If you have more than one home, at the top left of the Google Nest app, you should be able to tap "Menu" and then select a "home".
In the Google Home app, you should be able to tap the name of the current home at the top of the screen, and then select a "home".

Update: i have now reset the device and added again. This is very confusing. Google Home does not read this device. When i try to manually set it, it does not let me type the last 4 characters of the serial number. I can't see any way forward. Very disappointed with Google and i reiterate that this is one aspect where Apple beats Google hands down, eyes blindfolded!! Shame!!

I'm not sure what you mean by "reading this device" or "registering" this device from the Google Home app. The Nest Learning Thermostat gets installed in the Google Nest app. Once it is installed there, it should AUTOMATICALLY appear in the Google Home app, provided you are logged in with the SAME Google account and is accessing the SAME Google Nest "home". You CANNOT install it in the Google Home app. (Yes, having 2 apps is cumbersome; it's Google Nest's current design; they are working to bring everything into the Google Home app.)
Are you sure you logging onto the Google Nest app and the Google Home app with the same Google account? And are you also accessing the same Google Nest "home" in each app? You can check whether you have more than one "home" in each app using the instructions I posted above.
Some customers have had this problem because their thermostat is in one "home" in the Google Nest app but they are accessing a different "home" in the Google Home app or are using a different Google account for each app.

Hi folks,
@MplsCustomer, thanks for the help!
@Taurus, how's it going with your Nest Thermostat? Were you able to set it up with the Nest App again? If not, could you try creating a new home structure on the Nest App and set it up there?
Thanks,
Edward

Hi. No i haven't managed to set it up, i have given up now 😞
I am using it via the Nest app, without any integration into the Home app.
Thanks anyway for everyone's advice and suggestions.
