Hello CHook1,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Google Nest Community Forum. I'd be happy to take a look at this for you.

If you're facing an issue with no power on the "star(*)" terminal when testing the humidifier on your Nest Thermostat, it's important to troubleshoot the problem systematically, as we strongly suggest a professional installation for this type of system. Please check out these step-by-step instructions:

  • Check Wiring:
    • Begin by ensuring that the wiring is correctly configured. Make sure the wires are securely connected to the respective terminals on the Nest Thermostat.
  • Verify Humidifier Compatibility:
  • Check the humidifier power source:
    • Verify that the humidifier has a power source. Some humidifiers require a dedicated power source, such as an electrical outlet.
  • Inspect the humidifier wiring.
    • Examine the wiring on the humidifier itself. Make sure there are no loose or disconnected wires. If the humidifier has a control panel, check for any error codes or indicators that might suggest an issue.
  • Update Nest Software:
    • Ensure that your Nest Thermostat's software is up-to-date. Check for and install any available firmware updates through its settings.
  • Reset the Nest Thermostat:
    • Perform a reset on your Nest Thermostat. This can be done through the settings menu. After the reset, reconfigure the thermostat settings, including the humidifier setup.
  • Inspect the furnace control board:
    • If the humidifier is connected to the furnace, inspect the furnace control board. Ensure that the wiring from the thermostat to the furnace is intact. Look for any blown fuses on the control board.

Remember to follow safety first by turning off the power from your HVAC system at the breaker box before touching a wire. Also, share with us a photo of your old thermostat and Nest Thermostat's wiring set up.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,
Mark
