Further to the Nest withdrawal of support for first and second generation products......
...'We very much value you as a longstanding customer...' (what utter rubbish!)
I have three questions:
Why do this just before winter starts?..... forced purchases
Why remove the controls from the app? ... I can appreciate stopping support, but not the functionality of the app.
What is Google's commitment for reducing un-necessary waste? (zero!)
Like I said in the subject, I'm a pensioner and I can't afford to upgrade, and if I could, I would rather spend double on one of Googles competitors products after this.
It was so handy to use Alexa or the app to adjust the temperature as and when I needed to tweek it, now I have to get up, and go downstairs to twirl the thermostat.
Finally the part of the message that really upset me was that derisory offer to switch to Tado Smart Thermostat X - Starter Kit at 50% off the retail price of £159.99 at it was time limited .... when you can already pick that model up for a third of that price! Laughable!
Its a bye bye Google and a hello Duckduckgo from me! (its quite good you know!)

I agree, forced obsolescence is not a good pathway to customer retention. I will not buy another Google Nest product in my lifetime because of this, Google is too big to care about the little guy. Next thermostat I buy, it’s an Ecobee for me!

@gwhuttona I assume you are in the UK? You could purchase a used Nest 3rd Gen Display and Base, that will run with your 1st/2nd Gen Heat Link. I have not had any information regarding stopping the 3rd Gen display in the future, and they have updated the firmware for the first time in about 5 years.
