Indoor Temperature Reads Extremely High

camiarrobino

Hi, I installed a Google nest (non-learning) in my home today, and it seems to be operating fine in terms of calling for heat when asked, but for several hours now the device continues to say that the indoor temperature is between 85-90 degrees when it has only been 64-68 degrees in here. I have it connected to a C wire, and no the Nest is not anywhere near an air vent or other hot object. The device, including the back of it, feel warm at most. There are no software updates, and the battery level says "good" . I contacted support and they said to give it a few hours, still sems very odd and just wondering if anyone else has had similar experience?

As an update, I have at least narrowed it down to that the thermostat only behaves this way when mounted on the wall (and theoretically wired. If I take the Nest off the wall and put it anywhere in the room, the temperature normalizes within a few minutes. Then I'll put it back on the mounting plate (which is level) and the ambient temperature sensed will go back up to 85-90 degrees within a few minutes....and no, none of the wires, nor anything around the mounting plate whatsoever are warm at all

Would love to know what the problem was. I am having the same issue.

must have just been a faulty unit. I couldn't figure anything out so I swapped it for a different one, which has been working fine for weeks now. not sure what the specific issue with the faulty unit was but must be something inside overheating
