Indoor temp states 101 during the winter.

We have 3 nest thermostats in our home. 2 of which work great. The 3rd states the indoor temp is 101 in the winter. I’ve taken the batteries out and restarted the system. The temperature reading went down to 71, but about 12 later is back to 101. The room itself is still chilly.

Thank you are your help.

Hello Najessup,

I'm sorry to hear about the issue you're experiencing with one of your Nest Thermostats in your home.

I appreciate that you've already taken a good step by removing the batteries and restarting the system. Since the temperature temporarily went down to 71 but then returned to 101, it could be indicative of an issue with the network or the sensor itself. Let's sort this out.

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • When was the thermostat installed?
  • Where did you install your thermostat? (in a room and on a wall or stand)
  • Could you provide a rundown of all the steps you've tried?
  • Please gather the signal strength value. Go to Settings > Technical Info > Network.
  • If you have a thermometer, take a photo of the thermometer next to the Nest Thermostat. Both the thermometer and thermostat screens should be visible in the photo and show the difference in each other’s readouts.

Going over these steps might help:

  1. Restart your thermostat.
  2. Turn on the sunblock. Settings > Nest Sense
  3. Check if the thermostat is near a heat source.
    1. Air vents that direct warm air
    2. Appliances (which include large televisions)
    3. Electrical outlets
    4. Plumbing (hot water pipes in old buildings are frequently not insulated)
    5. Warm air in the wall
    6. Other potential heat sources
  4. Cover the wall with a duct seal compound.
  5. Check the thermostat's network connection.
    1. Disable the Wi-Fi network for 24 hours.
    2. Settings > Reset > Account Connection/Network.

Let us know how it goes.

Best regards,
Mark
