Intermittent Hot Water Issue

Jo83

I’ve been having a really odd issue with our nest for about 3 weeks. It only impacts the hot water, our heating works fine. Boiler is a recently serviced system which heats a tank.

When I ask for hot water either via the schedule or a manual boost the nest app and device say it’s boosting but nothing happens on the boiler. If I do the same and ask for heating it works fine.  If I press manual on the heat link the heating comes on but again no hot water is sent to heat.

The odd thing is if I reset the nest it works for 2/3 days and then stops again. Makes it hard to know when to call out an engineer as it’s such an intermittent fault.

Fitted in 2021 so out of warranty. Does this mean Google won’t help?

I assume you are in the UK?

Have you tested the contacts for the water terminal 4- 5 -6?

Who supplied the thermostat? ie shop or installer etc.?

UK based.

Is testing the water contacts something I can do myself?

Bought online and installed with the new boiler in 2021, has worked perfectly since.

I have no idea if your capabilities, but if you have a neon screwdriver, then I would assume so!!

You say it works sometimes, which makes me think it’s a boiler issue. Have you had you motorised valves checked?

Hi, @Jo83,

Thank you so much for reaching out to the community. I’m truly sorry you are having trouble controlling hot water. I’m happy to help you and find a solution!

To effectively troubleshoot, please provide the following information:

  • What type of thermostat do you have?
  • When did your boiler receive maintenance?
  • Besides the boiler serviced system, has there been any other recent work done on your thermostat or heating system?
  • What is the status of the Heat Link's LED light?
  • When did the inconvenience start?
  • Were there any power outages?
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps?
  • Is there a pattern to the heat activating? Does it happen every day, or at the same time each day?
  • Do you have a system or a combi boiler? Is the control On/Off or Opentherm?
  • Does the display show a water droplet inside of a circle? This icon suggests whether or not Hot Water or Bacteria Prevention is activated.

This information will help me to provide you with accurate troubleshooting steps. Thanks in advance.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Ana
