You can for the most part ignore the F wire add that is primarily for these older Trane Heat Pumps temperature anticipator in the outdoor unit. The X2 wire is typically your emergency or second stage heat. Go online and use the Google nest, compatibility, checker and input your wires as W2 for for X2 to wire and ignore the F wire.

Your current thermostat is only compatible with the Nest Learning Thermostat, 3rd Gen

Try this wiring.

Green - G to G

Blue - B to C

Red - R to Rc

Yellow - Y to Y1

Brown - F to tape off, not used (fault light)

White - W to W2 (set as Aux Heat)

Black - X2 to * (set as Emergency heat)

Orange - O to OB

Hello folks,

I wanted to ensure that everything was covered here.

Thanks for the input, Ken and @Patrick_Caezza.

@Morganannette, I wanted to see if you still needed help. Have you managed to follow the wiring guide shared above? You can also check your system’s compatibility before purchasing a Nest Thermostat with our online Compatibility Checker. If there’s anything else I can help you with, please let me know.

Mark
