Hi Jst8215,
Thanks for bringing this up here in the Google Nest community. We'd be happy to take a look into this for you. Based on the photo you sent us, this is compatible with the Nest thermostat. You can wire the white wire to the W1 terminal and the red wire to RC or RH (no need to put the jumper wire as it already has one inside the base).
In addition to this, you can also check our Google Nest compatibility checker.
Let me know if you have questions, we're happy to help.
Cheers,
Renz

Hi Renz!
Thank you so much!! So I don’t need to worry about not having a c-wire? Does either the white or red wire supply the power then?
I do appreciate it because I thought I was going to have to use a different brand, but I’m super happy I can buy a Nest!!

Hello Jst8215,
We’ll take that as a win! Thanks for getting back to us, and yes, you don't need a C wire, but if ever you encounter any problems with it, you can take a look at our Nest Power Connector. This device can act like a common wire in your system.
Let me know if you have questions, we're happy to help.
Cheers,
Renz

Will this system be compatible?

Hi kirk005,
Thanks for posting here in the Community forum and for showing interest in our Nest Thermostats. Are you located in North America or Europe? What type of HVAC system do you have? What is the make and model of your HVAC system? And could you send us a photo of your current thermostat wiring configuration so we can take a closer look? You may use our Compatibility Checker to determine if a Nest Thermostat is compatible with your heating and cooling system.
I'll look forward to your response.
Best,
Zoe

Hi Jono4551,
Your current thermostat has the non-standard labels of V+, Vg, V+ RED, and Vg BLACK which means that your system is proprietary. Proprietary systems aren’t compatible with Google Nest Thermostats. However, some proprietary systems can be rewired by a pro installer to be compatible.
Let us know if that helps.
Thanks,
Zoe

I have a thermostat with R, O, Y, G, and B wire connections. When starting to install google nest thermostat, the instructions say it is not compatible. I know this was a programmable thermostat, which I no longer want, Can a professional change this to a google nest system? Or is this not possible?

Hello JDM1,
Thanks for posting here in this thread. The R, O, Y, G, and B wires are standard HVAC wires, but Nest thermostats may require additional compatibility with certain systems. If the Nest Thermostat instructions indicate that it's not compatible with your current wiring, it might be worth it if you could also share with us a photo of your existing thermostat's wiring.
In some cases, it might be possible to reconfigure the wiring or use additional components to make the Nest Thermostat compatible with your system.
I look forward to your response so we can configure it.
Regards,
Mark

Thanks for helping me Mark. How do you post a picture? I do not see that option here.

Hi JDM1,
Thanks for the photo. It appears to be Nest Thermostat-compatible. What type of HVAC system do you have? (conventional or heat pump).
For conventional systems to the Nest Thermostat:
For the heat pump system in the Nest Thermostat:
Use these guides above for the wiring configuration and let us know if you have more questions.
Warm regards,

Thanks so much Mark. This is great news.
Once I install the Google Nest, per the Duke Energy recommendation, I should install the Google power connector to the control panel of my furnace. Do you know which wire is used for power?

Hi there,
I'm glad to hear that you're excited about installing the Nest Thermostat—it's a fantastic addition to any home. In terms of connecting it to the control panel of your furnace, it's essential to exercise caution and follow the recommended guidelines.
Typically, the power wire is labeled R, Rc, Rh and C and colored differently from the other wires. Commonly, it's colored red. In your case, you no longer need the Nest Power Connector as the C wire is already present.
Best of luck with your installation, and feel free to ask if you have any more questions.
Best,
Mark
