The compatibility checker was asking for a wire labeled C.  All I see is one labeled G.  Is this ok to use and where do the wires go.  I have W, R, G, B, Y

Is the blue wire connected to the B terminal?

Your current thermostat is compatible with any of the Nest thermostats.

You might need a C wire. If the blue isn't connected to the B terminal, you can use it to create a C Wire. You'll need the Google Nest Power connector if it is connected.

Sadly Patrick it looks like the blue conductor was cut off and not connected.

If that is the case, you wouldn't need the Google Nest Power Connector and can connect it like this

Red - R to R (jumper to Rc not needed)

Green - G to G

White - W to W

Yellow - Y to Y

  • Nest thermostats are designed to work without a common ("C") wire in most homes. During installation, a small number of customers may find that the Nest Thermostat does not receive sufficient power.  See g.co/nest/cwire for details.

I strongly recommend that you install a C wire

The blue wire was cut and not connected.  I entered this into the compatability checker and found I was good to go.  After working out the E294 code and sorting it out, I am living in comfort and changing the thermostat from my recliner.  As God intended.
