Looking for Nest heating advice

Hi -- looking at installing Nest e Learning Thermostat at home and would like some advice please.

I have a gas boiler, hot water tank and two wired in controls (second of which only covers one bedroom).

Couple of questions:

1. Can I use one Nest thermostat (or anyway I can use one), rather than buy two thermostats (one for each zone).

2. Can Nest e-learning thermostat be used with smart TRVs (Tado or similar) to create more zones? If not, any other easy ways of creating more temperature controlled zones please?

3. Any experience on Nest vs Hive?

Thanks in advance

Hi @rbrangwi , thanks for reaching out to us here. I would be happy to try and assist you. To answer your questions:

1. You need a thermostat for each zone. You can't use one thermostat for both zones. Here is a link with information on how our thermostats work in a zoned system.

2. You can use any of our thermostats with TRVs installed but they will not interact, they will act separately. You can read about all the details here.

Also keep in mind that if you have a system with a separate hot water tank, the E version does not have terminals for hot water control. The Google Nest 3rd Generation has the hot water terminals on the Heat Link.

Let me know if there is anything else I can try and assist with and sorry for the late reply.

Hi @rbrangwi. Just checking in, is there anything else we can assist you with at the moment?

Hi, thanks for reaching out to check if any other questions.

Am / was really keen on Nest heating, the only piece that has made me think again is that Nest will not interact with Smart TRVs and I would need to operate them independently. Not sure if Google were planning this level of interaction in the future but would seem logical I think similar to other products on the market.

Was looking for 'best' and most flexible option for things like working from home to focus heat where am working.

Hi, just wanted to check in again to see if you have any other questions. If so, make sure to let me know.

Also, just to add to the compatibility with TRVs discussion. We did have our Works with Nest program, where there were some that could interact with the thermostat but this program has been retired and replaced with the Works with Hey Google one. Currently an option to interact with other TRVs, that are compatible with the Google Home app, is not an option but my colleagues are always working on bringing more functionality in the future but I don't have any information on when or if such compatibility will come.

You can read more about the old Works with Nest and the Works with Hey Google here.
