I had a new HVAC system installed and wired it up correctly, I have matched the configuration in the 3rd gen nest thermostat settings, everything is right.

heat is always showing heat stage 2 when I adjust it, even if it’s 1 degree off.

how is this thermostat supposed to handle both stages? I want to make sure it’s functioning properly. Does the outdoor temperature effect it? Like if it reads 36 outside and I have the room at 65 and set the heat to 66 is it just running stage 2 due to the outdoor temperature? Maybe it’s assuming stage 1 will not be able to raise the temp with the ductwork sitting in 36 degree weather?

I am trying to figure out what all goes into play here, how does this thermostat control stages etc. since I can’t access source code I cannot decipher its behavior.

is their any in depth documentation about how the stat reacts to all situations?

this is a 2 stage gas forced air on both, an 2 stage ac

Hello AshTray900,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry. I'd love to know more about this.

To isolate:

  • Could you share a photo of your previous and current thermostat's wiring with us?
  • What's the make and model of your new HVAC system?
  • Were there any changes to your thermostat's settings after installing your new system?

I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,

Mark
