Multiple Nest Thermostats in One House

I have found the solution to the problem of connecting multiple Nest thermostats in the same home. Many of us have found we had to create additional “homes” in the Google Home app in order to add more than one Nest thermostat.

After hours of troubleshooting, a Google rep told me the Nest thermostats should all be on the same 2.4 ghz WiFi network. Previously I had used our Google WiFi connection, that does not allow you to specify 2.4 ghz, which stumped my Google rep who told me to call my ISP… I did that, and Xfinity showed me how I could configure their router to show separate WiFi signals for each of 2.4 ghz and 5.0 ghz. Afterwards, I connected my iPhone to our 2.4 ghz WiFi, reset all my thermostats to factory settings, repeated the setup on each thermostat using the 2.4 ghz network, and everything worked!!!

Hopefully this helps someone out there. It’s annoying that Google Nest does not work properly with Google WiFi. It’s also annoying how many hours I had to spend on this. It’s also annoying that I now have to have separate Xfinity WiFi networks to accommodate Google, requiring me to reconnect a few other devices in our home. I chose Google Nest thermostats because they were supposed to be easy, and integrate seamlessly into our existing Google Home app. It has definitely not been easy, but hopefully everything goes well from here.

Do you need to have the same type of thermostats meaning do both have to be the learning thermostat or one can be the learning while the other is a regular nest thermostat?
