Multiple temperature schedules

Snoozen

Is it possible to set more than one schedule? This is for a vacation home that is unoccupied for weeks at a time.

Well, sort of....

The Nest does have a Home/Away mode that can be auto-sensed by the presence of your phone or you can set Home or Away manually.  When it's in Away mode, it will trigger Eco settings to lower the temps, etc.

Or if you want more manual control of this,  each Mode can have it's own schedule.  So you can set the mode to Heat and make a schedule for when you are there.  Then switch to the Heat+Cool mode and make a schedule for when you are away.

Hey folks,

Thanks for answering to this, johnCNA.

@Snoozen, yes, you can have multiple schedules on your Nest thermostat. Take a look at this link for more information and for the step by step guide: https://bit.ly/3briTs2

Hope this answers your question.

Best,

Melba

The above link from Melba just shows how to change your schedule.  Is there a link for how to make two different schedules to toggle between?  My wife and I each work from home at different times and our schedules are not consistent.  Since we each have different climate control preferences when we're home alone it would be great to have the option to switch from schedule A to schedule B without having to reprogram the whole day.  Most other basic thermostats have this option, so I'm confident it is an easy feature to add in.

Yes please, this would be great as we also would like a ‘light use’ schedule and a ‘normal use’ depending upon who is at home.

Hi Jogwad,

We hear you. Our team is working hard to deliver the best experience for our users — we'll take this as feedback. Keep your eye on the Google Nest Community page https://goo.gle/2JvnMRy for any updates. Please let me know if you have other questions or concerns as I will be locking this in 24 hours if I won't hear back from you again. Feel free to start a new thread and we'll be happy to help.

Check out this link on how to file feedback.

Thanks,

Edward

Why are you shutting this down without answering the question.  Please address why you will not allow for multiple schedules for users to toggle between?  This is neither a new request or a novel one.  Every other thermostat I've ever had includes this option.

Hi davidbutts77,

We don't have any news to share about the feature to have multiple schedules. We appreciate users who are keen on sharing their thoughts with us. We're always looking to improve — we'll take this as feedback.

Thanks,

Edward

I have a Nest thermostat. Multiple schedules is just basic functionality that would take a decent dev team a couple of weeks to add to the app. Without the functionality the system is next to useless. IMO it’s time for me to write off the investment in the Nest box and buy something that works. Nest is useless

"Our team is working hard to deliver the best experience for our users — we'll take this as feedback." is a canned response that I simply do not believe to be true.  Can you please provide a response to help me change my mind on this?

Which of the following is correct:
1) Google is not able to figure out how to provide more than one programmed schedule that users can toggle between, but they wish to provide this service.

2) Google is not able to figure out how to provide more than one programmed schedule that users can toggle between and they do not care to provide this service.

3) Google is capable of adding this feature, but is not interested in doing so.

4) Google is capable of adding this feature and is interested in doing so.

Only one of these options can be true.  Logic dictates that it is #3 because this feature has been desired (by myself and others) for several years and the canned response I received in 2018 is still being used in 2022.  Instead of offering solutions, the thread asking for such solutions is being locked without any resolution.

Please refrain from saying you will "take this as feedback" as I have no faith that that means anything.  All we want is the option for multiple pre-programmed schedules (a simple request).  Barring that, I would greatly appreciate a reason why this is not of interest to Google.

Hi

it seems that Google are able to, but not interested (#3).

it may be that they are going to incorporate this feature in the next generation of the device and get us to buy new ones (just the cynic in me !)

Hi davidbutts77,

We're happy to hear about your excitement for this feature, but we don't have any news to share about this right now.

Thanks,

Edward

What?!

Then what exactly did you mean by "We’re working on adding more features and improvements. Stay tuned for updates."?  What features and improvements were you referring to?  Or was that just an empty reply?

Hi folks,

Thanks for your assistance, @EdwardT.

@davidbutts77, hearing suggestions like yours helps us make our products even better. We update products and features often, but right now, we don’t have an answer to that. We'll make sure to pass this along to the right team.

So I'm going to be locking this thread in 24 hours. If you have any other concerns or questions, please feel free to create a new thread.

Thanks,

Mark

Before shutting down this thread, could you please address a few questions:

1) what exactly is a "community specialist"?  It seems like they are bots that shut down inquiries without offering any solutions.  If I'm wrong, please explain what you do.

2) Can you please offer me some assurance that this concern is being looked into.  This concern is very basic and has been ignored for over 4 years now (at the least).  For example, what team is the "right team" to pass this along to?

3)  You say you update your products and features often, but the requested update is so simple that it should have been addressed by now.  Why has google ignored it for so long?  Why don't they want to make this feature available.

Eagerly awaiting an honest answer, but not actually expecting one.

Markjosephp it's been about 6 weeks since you've asked if I have any other concerns/questions. I promptly shared them. Do you need more time to think about it? Are you even a real person? That is an honest question.

Still eagerly awaiting your reply.

There is a need for multiple schedules, such as:

  • Early shift
  • Late shift
  • Holiday/staycation

Programmable thermostats usually have at least a holiday schedule along with the weekday and weekend schedules. I can set alarms in Google Clock for an early shift and a late shift, so it's possible to do. Having to manually change the schedule times just to switch shifts is silly.

Please add multiple schedules to all Nest thermostats in the next software update. The programmers who worked on the Clock app can surely help here.

It would be good to also have the Boost function on the heating, like we have on the hot water.

What features and functionality are on "The Roadmap" is what needs to be answered for this product.  I also need this feature but if it is not on the roadmap, it will never happen.

Hello there,

I appreciate all your patience with us.

We value our customers' input. I'll bet other users would love to have this feature too. We're really working to bring more features to Google Nest Thermostats to make it work flawlessly, so thanks to everyone for the insights. So, please let our product team know about it by sending feedback. Also, let us know if you have any other concerns, as we'll be closing this thread within 24 hours.

Regards,

Mark

So why are you closing the thread?

Please address my questions from Oct 21 before doing so. Seriously, we're giving feedback and you're asking us for more without doing anything.

Try again, please

Hello davidbutts77,

If this discussion will be closed earlier than you would have preferred, we apologize for the inconvenience. This is to keep the discussions in our community current, we Community Specialists occasionally perform some housekeeping. In line with this, our product team is collecting all of the features that our customers are requesting and is going to look at how they can be implemented in the future.

Regards,

Mark

May I request that you prioritize actually answering questions over housekeeping.  We've agreed many questions and received very few answers.

Please try again

Sorry, "asked" not agreed

Hello Nest Team

This must be a joke ? How can you close down a conversation without resolving the issue ? This is not the first time that a similar request for this functionality has been made without any form of resolution.

Are you going to address this request or not ?

Simple answer required !!

Still waiting for an answer.  Is Markjosephp even human?  I'm having serious doubts.  Not joking

another month has passed with no response making it over a year from the initial inquiry with the only responses being threats to shut down this thread or answers that do not address the topic at hand.

Just checking in on your efforts to "keep the discussions in our community current" (your words).  There are many users trying to keep this discussion current, but the 'community specialists' have been absent from it for several months.  That should have been more than enough time for the Google team to tackle this simple issue or at least provide a reason why they are unable/unwilling to do so.

Please let me know if you have any other questions as I intend to keep this thread open indefinitely until we receive an intelligible response.

Google shows again that it just doesn’t care.

Hey Mithun2005,

Thanks for your update. We hear you and we understand if this is not the answer you're looking for. Our Engineering team will be the one who'll receive feedback and do their best to help you  with your requests. We also hope that your request will be granted and apply it the soonest to provide you the feature that you're referring to. Let us know if you have more questions in mind.

Best,

Emerson

No need to invite us to all more questions, please just address this simple one. Why isn't there an option to program multiple schedules?

*ask (not all)

No answer to this much needed feature on nest thermostat. And as far as I know there had been no additional features added to the Nest thermostat in the last 5 years.

Flufferyan

I have come to the conclusion that the Nest thermostat tries so hard to be extremely easy to use that it ends up not having the basic functionality that any one with the slightest bit of understanding of how their HVAC system works would want. My brother who lives alone, travels for work frequently, and does not have the slightest clue how his system works, absolutely loves his. I on the other hand  have worked in the HVAC field before and getting it to do what I want and not what it thinks I should want is beyond frustrating.

My wife has a rolling 3 week schedule, early mornings, daytime and then nights. I don't think this is that uncommon and surprised this use case was omitted.
