It looks like you have a separate heating and cooling system and not one that is combined. If this is true, then only the Nest Learning Thermostat, 3rd Gen is compatible with it.
There should be two cables on the back of that baseplate. One will have a red and white wire at the minimum and the other will have a red, white, blue, and green wire.
The cable with only the red and white wires should be coming from the heat only equionebt and the other cable from the cooling only equipment.
You need to look at the air handler for the cooling equipment and see what the white wire is conneted to.
