NEST 3rd Gen

I've had this Nest 3rd gen for a few years. First one died within a year, bad WiFi chip, this was the replacement.
Since it's gotten really cold down south, My Nest is stating 71º at the thermostat, while the hallway it's in is freezing. 2nd sensor is in LR, which is colder, using *that colder temp as sensor for thermostat/ heat.

NEVER had issues with this in past winters. Seems impossible to contact Google Nest support.

Have done a soft reset 3 times, turned heat off, to cool, off back to heat. Checked furnace. Seems to work ONLY if I nudge the thermostat, manually. This is getting really old. Sensor on Nest itself is way off, never was an issue before.

Any tips on how to actually reach support appreciated... about to trash this thing and get a Honeywell or EcoBee!

I have the same issue in the UK.  The hallway is freezing yet Nest is stating its 17 degrees.  I've ordered some old school thermometer which should be arriving today so will post how far the out the Nest Thermostat really is later on.

Strange, I did a reset of the schedule, even though I hadn't set up any, (but it *does make its own just from using (it) and nuked it. Then we got/have a bitter cold front--- and the damned thing is behaving much better... Gotta be software(?).

Hi folks,

I appreciate you taking the time to post in the community! I'm sorry to hear that your Nest Thermostat is using the temperature of the Nest temperature sensor instead of the thermostat.

To avoid that the thermostat can create its own schedule based on the temperature sensor. You can try the steps below.

  1. Choose Settings > Nest Sense > Auto-Schedule and then Off.
  2. Once done with the steps above, you need to go to Settings > Reset > Schedule.

In the meantime, you can take a look at the following article: Disable learning for the temperature schedule.

I’ll be waiting for your reply.

Regards,

Derick.

Hi,

1: Nest Sense Auto was already off.
2: I reset schedules (though I had none anyway, but it creates it's own).
Got bitter cold down south here, using Living Room extra sensor always now.
Nest at least comes on now, but not always, have to slightly *nudge it to kick in heat.
Example: Heat is set to 67º, house is cold, lightly nudge the thermostat up then back down and it'll turn orange and begin heating... very much still a 'manual' situation. Not behaving as it once did. Always could keep heat @ 66º at night when sleeping. No longer. Wiring, firmware, everything cool and set to off.

Hi @Chotty,

Thank you for your reply. There are some things that you can try:

Let's try checking if the Home away is off by following the next steps:

  1. On the Nest App:
  2. Tap settings > select Home/Away assist > and then select Home.
  • Could you please also take a look to see if the thermostat pins are straight and if the clips on the base are securing the thermostat in place properly?

I’ll be waiting for your reply.

Regards,

Derick.
