Have a gas forced air heater; no AC; old thermostat worked perfectly. Hooked up the simple 5-wire (with C) from old thermostat to new Next (basic model). I can't get ANYTHING to work (batteries are okay) - I'd be happy with manual operation just to get it going. What could be wrong?
I think I resolved the problem. I had to trick the on-line setup steps by pretending I do not have a O/B wire even though I do (which enables switch from heat to cold). Saying I had an O/B wire caused an error saying 'contact Nest support'. That error message seems to happen if you click on any of the 'other', non-standard wires. Hope this resolution helps others.
