Need help installing

I'm trying to install the learning thermostat and it keep saying there is no power to my R wires. I've tried plugging my red wire into my Rh and Rc connection but the nest will just say there's no power detected to whichever one I have it plugged in. My system is turned back on and I've made sure the wires are pushed in all the way. Using Gas forced air furnace

Hello lmn5588,

Thank you for taking the time in letting us know about your inquiry. I'd be happy to take a look into this for you.

To isolate:

  • Did you get the wire report during or after the set-up?
  • Does it have a C wire? If so, remove the C wire and leave it disconnected.
  • Ensure that all the wires of your thermostat are seated firmly in their terminals (with no loose or exposed wires).
  • Check the air filter. A clog in the air filter can limit how much air flows over the cooling coils. If the clog persists, the cooling coils can freeze and cause the your system to shut off.

Have a look at this article and let us know if you need more help.

Best regards,

Mark

Hi Edward, sorry for the late reply. I responded in my email and didn't realize it didn't send through. We've had our HVAC company come out to diagnose the issue of why the nest thermostat isn't connecting and they keep telling us we need to pay for a rewiring to add additional wires. They keep telling us we don't have the common wire for the nest to communicate with the furnace. Can you validate this?

Not sure if this helps but these are the wires we currently have in the thermostat we're trying to replace. The nest thermostat keeps giving us errors with the red wire no matter where we plug it in (tried both RC and RH)

Hi lmn5588,

Thanks for the update. If your HVAC tech isolated that your Nest may need a C wire, it's possible that your Nest Thermostat is not getting consistent power and you may really need to install a C wire or a Nest Power Connector. Also, if you haven't yet, you could check this link for other troubleshooting steps you could try.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi everyone,

Just one quick final check in here since activity has slowed down. We'll be locking the thread in the next 24 hours, but if you still need help, I would be happy to keep it open. If there's more we can do, just let me know.

Thanks,

Hello Mark,

We got the error upon trying to boot up the nest after installing all the wires. We do not have a C wire, but all the other wires are seated firmly. Our air filters are new and was placed in with the furnace we just purchased recently
