Thanks for posting and welcome to the Google Nest Community. 

This account security feature was introduced last May 2021 for non-migrated users. This is to ensure that it's really you trying to login which will greatly reduce the likelihood of an unauthorized person trying to gain access to your Nest account, even if they have your username and password.
