Nest 3 Short Cycling

GrantV
Community Member

I had a good old simple Honeywell Thermostat (20 yrs old) and upgraded to a Nest Gen 3 when I had a heat pump installed last summer. I know notic whenever my heat kicks on, it starts for maybe 30 -60 seconds, shuts off for 5-10 seconds and then starts back up.

I’ve read a lot of stuff on this but cannot figure out why this is happening. I’m about to go back to Honeywell if I cannot get this fixed ASAP.

Hi @GrantV,

Thanks for reaching out in the community forum. I'm sorry to hear you're going through this with your Nest thermostat. Don't worry, help's here. To assist you better, I have some questions for you:

  • What other strange symptoms have you experienced since the problem started?
  • Are there any error messages? If so, what are they exactly?
  • Does the issue happen on heating only, cooling only, or both?
  • Please send me a picture of your current wiring installation.

Feel free to reply to this post with the information needed to assist you further.

Sincerely,
Jonathan

-No other issues except the stopping when heating, I noticed it did it 2 x last night during one heat up cycle from 66 to 70 degrees.

-Never an error message.

-Not sure if it only happens on heat. I think it might also happen during the cooling as well but I’m not entirely sure.

@GrantV

The simple issue (no C wire) doesn't appear to be the problem.

Has this problem been there since it was installed?

Any chance that you can post a picture of the control board terminal block in the furnace/air handler?

Can you post a picture showing how the Nest base is wired?
