Nest 3rd Generation Learning Thermostat Spinning Fan Icon Symbol Not Displaying

Installed Nest thermostat yesterday. Noticed in the Nest app that the fan icon symbol below the current temperature was constantly spinning even when the furnace was not running. Also confirmed that the furnace fan was not running either. Restarted the thermostat and fan icon still spinning. In one of the forum postings someone claimed they were able to fix this by running the fan manually for 15 minutes in the Nest app so I tried this. After 15 minutes the fan on the furnace turned off as expected but the fan icon on the app has disappeared completely and  does not show even when the furnace fan is running!

Restarted the app, rebooted my iphone, restarted the thermostat, nothing will bring the icon back when furnace is running.

If I run the fan manually from the Nest app the spinning fan icon DOES display.

Anyone else have this issue and know of a fix or is this a bug in the software?

Thanks for bringing this up here at Google Nest Community. This doesn’t normally happen, but let’s look deeper into it. Please answer the following:

  • Are you using an Android or iOS device?
  • Do you have other phones?
  • Is there a family member in the account?
  • What is the current software version of your Nest Learning Thermostat?

Follow these steps to get the Nest Thermostat software version.

Nest app

  1. Open the Nest app.
  2. On the home screen, tap your Nest product.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Select Technical Info.
  5. The current version should appear next to "Software."

It seems that you're experiencing an issue with the fan icon on your Nest 3rd Generation Learning Thermostat and the corresponding display in the Nest app. Let's try these: 

 

  1. Ensure the Nest Thermostat and Nest app are running on the latest firmware and software versions, as updates can address known issues or bugs.
    • Check the app store for available updates.
    • For your Nest Thermostat, go to Settings > Software.
  2. To ensure optimal functionality, ensure your Nest thermostat is connected to Wi-Fi and your Nest app device has a stable internet connection, as connectivity issues can cause app discrepancies.
  3. Perform a hard restart on your Nest Thermostat by pressing and holding its display until it turns off. It will then turn on itself after a few moments to refresh the device and potentially resolve any software issues.
