Nest 3rd gen, Heat works fine, when set to cool is keeps turning off and on

Help! I have one heat/AC unit and 2 floors, Each floor has a Nest 3rd gen, both wired the same. For some reason the 1st floor nest when set to cool keeps shutting the furnace off and on, but when set to heat it works fine. Not sure what to do next.....Anyone seen the same issue??

I have had the same issue the last 2 summers without having a fix. I believe it's a software issue but it also may not be getting enough power since it started

Hey folks,

Thank you for bringing this up to us.

I'd like to further investigate what's happening by checking a couple of things. Could you share a photo of your current wiring configurations? Have you tried to check the drip pans and filters from your HVAC unit?

Also, make sure to select the right heat source and type from settings > equipment, select heat type and source.

Let me know how it goes by replying to this thread.

Best regards,

Ryan

Good Morning. So, I have an upstairs Nest with the same wiring and it works fine. I have two nest thermostats and one heating and AC unit, with a damper that opens and closes depending on which Nest turns on, upstairs or downstairs. Looking at the furnace I can’t see anything wrong, everything is dry and looks fine, and like I said the upstairs works fine it does not shut off like the downstairs does when the nest kicks the cooler. With heat it stays on no problem, when I change it to cool it comes on for 10 or 15 seconds and then shuts off and then five seconds later it kicks back on again. Attached is a picture of the wiring that is the same upstairs and downstairs.

I don’t see how to attach the photo here

Thanks,

Jeff

OK, this time it gave me the option to attach a photo, just couldn’t do it with the previous message.

What happens when I don't have a common wire going to my thermostat? I'll attach a picture of control board from my furnace

OK, so I just pulled the wires out and reseated them, put the Nest back on and it told me why my wiring has changed. So I went through setup and put the nest back on and it rebooted and the cool seems to be staying on now like it should. Not sure exactly what I did, maybe one of the wires was not seated properly to make a connection, but it’s working now. Thanks for your reply though.

jeff

You actually have a common wire though. I do not that runs to the thermostat.
