My thermostat display is showing a System issue with website (g.co/nest/n416). The website is not valid and the error code n416 doesn't exist on the support page (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9240096?hl=en#zippy=%2Cn-help-codes). When I look at the wiring menu on the thermostat, it says N416: Electrical issue on W1 wire.
This thermostat is connected to a gas boiler with 3 zones. The boiler is working and the house is heating including the zone that this thermostat is connected to.
Anyone have any thoughts on what the issue is?

Following this thread as I just installed my thermostat and it’s showing the same message. We need to figure out if perhaps this is just a technical glitch?

I restarted the thermostat and the error code has not come back.

so you did a hard reset just to confirm?

I did a soft restart.
To restart from the menu, press the display, go to Settings, select Reset, and then choose Restart.

Hi beyercj,
Thanks for reaching out to our community.
I understand that your Nest Learning Thermostat 4th gen was showing the error code N4156. While you couldn't find this code on the support page, you correctly identified from the wiring menu that it pointed to an electrical issue on the W1 wire. I appreciate you letting us know that restarting the thermostat resolved the issue.
Akacperski, I would appreciate it if you could confirm that the inconvenience remains resolved for you.
If you need further assistance, please feel free to contact us.
Best regards,
Virna

I just got this same error message. It’s been working fine for months and now isn’t heating. Nothing has changed, we did a soft restart, still no heat

I also recently got this message. It seems to correspond with the recent update.

This started happening to me a few days ago. Found this thread and doing a restart fixed the issue initially, but two days later it’s back. As noted in another comment, the thermostat still seems to be working and heating as scheduled. Not sure where to go next.

Getting invalid nest codes, originally N420 then N416 after a reset. Wiring hasn't changed and it was up and running for months already without issue. I have an older gen Nest device for the first floor of my home which is heating fine so I know the gas furnace is running. Anyone else having issues with this? I feel like it's a technical issue?

I woke up to the same issue this morning, N 420, only code. Unit has been working for months okay, last night was the first night to cycle completely through the heating cycle. Used heat pump during day, cold enough the alt heat turned on. There is nothing on the Google site except this one post. No wiring changes. I have dual fuel system, HP and propane as alt heat.

I’ve restarted the thermostat and it’s still showing an error message and not heating. We had an hvac tech come take a look and he said it’s an issue with the thermostat as the hvac works fine if bypassed. No heat and it’s snowing and we paid hundreds for this POS thermostat. Cool cool

This issue seems be a tech glitch that Google needs to address with an update.

Same issue for me. Code is N416. I restarted the thermostat and the error message went away. Two days later the error message is back. Despite the error code, the thermostat appears to be functioning correctly and heating the space based on the schedule

Same issue...worked fine, woke up in a freezing house, error code n416. Restarted but nothing. Are we able to uninstall this awful update?

I just installed the new Google Nest Thermostats v4 last weekend. Everything went great, until we added the heat to it this weekend. Seems to be an issue across the board. I am receiving this N416 and no heat coming through. I can put on the old Nest Thermostat v2 and I have heat again. What's up Google?

having the same issue. installed last week working fine then today N416 error. but only on one of the thermostats

I will also note, it's only one of the thermostat (upstairs). Downstairs working flawlessly and keeping us warm, for now.

Its going to be in the 20s again tonight.
Bang Up Job Google!

Just FYI I tried to put the old v2 back on - Same issue as you @irate4x4. Kicked on the heater to test with the old thermostat, heard a huge pop. I think it blew a fuse in the unit. I was able to troubleshoot and trace the fuse. Looks blown. I am currently headed to the hardware store to fix. I'm hoping to have heat in the next few hours. Yeesh. I don't think it was worth the discount and I'll be billing Google for my time (equivalent to the price of THREE thermostats!).

Does anyone have a humidifier connected to the system and the error happened after turning the humidifier on?
yesterday
I do. I'm not sure when the system error appears. I don't think it's related to my humidifier but I could be wrong.
Thursday
N416 error. 4th gen. Just started happening. A soft reset fixed it for now.
Friday
**bleep** thing shorted out the contactor board in my air handler during the heating test I discovered. It was under warranty, but they suspect a faulty charge from the new thermostat to the unit jolted it bad enough to short out that part. It was under warranty, but I had to pay labor. $300. The value of the new thermostat? What a rip. Probably going to ask Google for my money back on this one.

Followed this thread for a few days because I was having the same problem. N416 error would randomly pop up. Initially, restarting the thermostat worked. After a few days, the error came back and only totally power cycling the furnace itself would work (turning the breaker off for a few minutes and turning it back on). Eventually nothing worked and I was left with a cold house. The circuit board fuse also kept popping every time I did a power cycle.
Called a local HVAC company and when they came out, they discovered the power wire for the furnace was dangling next to the blower motor shaft. Over time, the what wore away at the insulation on the wire causing it to spark against the metal shaft. Some electrical tape and zip ties and the problem was fixed.

Same issue as everyone else. N416 keeps appearing. Comes and goes. They don't have a fix for it.. they just keep having me move my wires around or reseating them. They don't even have a link to it on the support page. Bad software plain and simple. Sometimes I'll wake up and the house hasn't had heat all night and I reset the the thermostat and *poof* I have heat again. This only lasts for a day or so until it detects a "system issue" again. Never happened on the old thermostat. Not one time. Can't go back to it though- apparently it's been blowing fuses on your hvac if you go back to the old one they (coincidentally) don't want you to use anymore. This has class action written all over it.
I do have a humidifier plugged into this thermostat. Might be important for potential software fixes.
