Nest App cannot find my Nest Thermostat E

GritMcPunchfist

Hi all,

As the title states. Just had my Nest Thermo E and Heatlink E installed in the home today. Followed the instructions on the App and every time I scan the QR code on the base of the Thermo E or the back of the Thermo E device and then try to connect I always get an error saying the device can’t be found.

Tried to connect using the 6 character code but when it passes me on to the series number section the screen goes blank on the app. Using an IPhone 13 Pro Max for the set up. Nothing seems to work.

Hey GritMcPunchfist,

Thanks for posting and sorry for the delayed response.

A few questions — are you getting a specific message or a code on your Nest app or on the display of your Nest thermostat E when the setup fails? If yes, what is it? Also, have you tried setting it up using another mobile device like another phone or tablet if the issue persists? If not yet, please give that a shot and let me know how it goes.

Best,

Melba

Hi Melba,

The code I’m getting is TD023. Which is the failed blutoooth connection error I believe. I’ve gone through the following steps to try and pair the device after speaking with a Google rep via phone:

  • what type of connection are you trying to connect to (2.4 GHz or the 5 GHz network) ?
  • turn off the router and all the wireless devices
  • use an alternative access point (hot-spot) to connect the mobile device that has the Nest app installed.
  • reboot the mobile device that has the Nest app installed.
  • turn on the Airplane mode on the mobile device that has the Nest app and then turn ON the Bluetooth and the WiFi to connect it to the hot spot
  • make sure the Nest App is up to date
  • factory reset the thermostat display properly via a click + click + click and hold until the display turns OFF
  • open the Nest App and make sure you add the Thermostat on a new empty home structure
  • add the product by scanning the QR code.

After testing those recommended steps, I’m still not able to pair the device to my iPhone 13 Max Pro or my iPad Pro (10.5”) First Gen.
