Nest Cooling Works for Short Time Then Fails

I’ve been having an odd issue with my Nest lately. On cooling, it will work for a few hours then begin blowing out warm air. I tried turning off all scheduling and eco / seasonal modes to rule that out as well as restarting (not resetting) the device. My history also looks very odd where the Nest shows the AC was “on” all day, but indicates either 2 hours or 20 hours for the actual time output.

I’m trying to understand if this is a nest or AC unit issue, any help is much appreciated!

How do you have the Nest wired?

Does it have a C wire?

Do you have a heat pump or a conventional system?

When you set the Nest Thermostat up, do you remember which wires you selected when it asked for you to select them in the App?

Do you happen to have a picture of the original thermostat's wiring?

My unit just started doing the same thing.  Apparently the nest energizes the reversing valve.  (Black wire in your case) all the time even when the unit is not running.  It has damaged the reversing valve solenoid on the unit.  The valve is on even when the unit is turned off, it only deenergizes when you switch to heating.  Seems to be a software issue in the nest to me.

Interesting- is there anything that you did to check if this was in fact the case? Have maintenance scheduled for tomorrow to check things like refrigerant, but if I can troubleshoot further, maybe I can let them know to bring the part
