Nest/Furnace Issues

Nfruch

Starting this morning I have had to Restart our Nest Thermostat several times because it will say it is heating but the furnace isn’t actually on. Once I restart the nest it reconnects to the furnace and the furnace kicks on. What could be the issue here and how do I fix it?

I’m having this same issue except my gas furnace will not heat. It turns on the fan/blower but will not activate the gas so I’m only getting cold forced air not hot forced air. From my understanding if the heat continues to kick off there is a fault that the furnace is detecting so for safety purposes it kicks back off shortly after you reset it. For my issues I put our old thermostat back on and it worked fine for about 4 weeks and then the same issue restarted with the old Honeywell thermostat I have. I thought it could be the wiring had breaks in it but the nest is registering all 3 of my wires. The thermostat has a full charge as I took it off the wall and attached it to a mini USB overnight to rule out battery issues. I’m stumped on my heat loss and it’s 36degrees outside. My house is at 58 and I’m running blankets in the dryer at this point to keep us warm. Anyone have a resolution or tips for us to try?

Same thing for me.  Flashing red light on furnace.  I changed the limit switch on the furnace but same thing is happening.  I turn the temp down and back up on the nest thermostat and the furnace comes on.  No idea what is happening.

Hey folks,

Thanks for being here at the Google Nest Community.

I'd like to jump in here and check if you're still experiencing any issues with your Nest Thermostat. We could look into a couple of things for us to further isolate this concern. The first thing, is to check the fuses from your HVAC unit. There are fuse that might be busted and unable to continuously talk to your Nest Thermostat.

Let us know how it goes by replying to this thread.

Best regards,

Ryan

I just did an install of my Nest Thermostat. I initially had problems with the E-294 code and sought help with an online nest specialist.  We managed to clear the code by moving the white wire from terminal o/b originally wired on my old Honeywell Thermostat (see photos) to the W terminal on the Nest.

All seemed well and we went to bed thinking that the thermostat was functioning properly.  However the following problems were noted:

1. About 1 am I woke up cold and investigated, while set in 'Sleep Mode'  units fan runs without the furnace burner engaging resulting in a very cold house.

2. After coming out of 'Sleep Mode" and into 'Comfort Mode' the furnace and fan both run, but when the thermostat demands heat, the fan comes on for about 10 seconds along with the pilot light and then shuts off,

3. Once the pilot lights the burner, the fan comes back on and runs normally until the thermostat is satisfied.

As an aside, the old thermostat had a jumper that ran between R and Rc, I am not sure that matters for this discussion but wanted to throw it out there.

Can anyone shed light these problems?

Hello DrZCharlie,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry. I'd be happy to take a look into this for you.

It's most likely the scheduled temperatures that might trigger your system to activate unexpectedly. Please make sure that there are no duplicates that could cause an override. Also, check the Home/Away Routines and see if there are any routines that were created with your thermostat. Remove or edit if needed.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Mark

My thermostat will not send a call for heat.  The thermostat says says heating but it is not running.  If I turn the temp down and then back up the furnace kicks on.

Hi Vairyche,

Thanks for letting us know. I'm sorry to hear that you're also having this issue. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • How is your Nest Thermostat wired?
  • What is the power reading of your Nest Thermostat? You can find this information by going to Settings > Technical Info > Power.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Edward
