Nest Gen 2 Thermostat no longer able to go online

I just found out that I can no longer control my thermostat from my phone.   This is ridiculous.  Had I known they would stop supporting their product I would not have purchased it.  This is unfair.   I heard they are offering the Gen 4 for 150 dollars.   I purchased mine for 250 dollars when I was working.  I am now retired and can not afford to spend 150 on a thermostat.   I feel deceived.   Does anyone have a problem with this?

Yes this is unacceptable, these devices were SOLD on this functionality. It is hugely anti-consumer and probably illegal in Europe. Remember if you do get a 3/4/e they can brick that whenever they want you to 'upgrade' again. I think we all need to decide that smart products are not worth investing in if the key functionality can be taken away at any point.

https://youtu.be/tfAchfFXghc Tado behaviour for those interested. They faked charging customers a sub to continue to have remote access as 'marketing'.

I don’t have a problem with not supporting the product.  But why did they have to shut off the WiFi so you can’t use the app? That is ridiculous. I don’t know anyone else that does that… what if Microsoft Windows did that when they upgraded to a new OS.  I don’t understand other than trying to force you to upgrade…. I’ll go to different product that won’t screw you like that.
