Nest Heatlink Not Heating

My Google Nest Heatlink doesn't turn on the heating to our boiler.

There are no error messages on the thermostat and it is connected to the Heatlink ok.

Our hot water works fine. If I set our boiler to on as opposed to off or timer then the heating comes on ok.

When timer is set on the boiler the heating does not come on. Should the boiler be permanently set to on when using a Nest Heatlink?

Thank you for all the details @Fi1 . I'd be happy to try and assist. 

If you have a separate timer or programmer we recommend that it be set to always on. Just to check, is this a new installation?

Ok great thank you so much. We have had the Nest Thermostat and Heatlink for a couple of years now. We had to have the Heatlink replaced last year as it was faulty and haven't had the heating on since early this year. 

We since have had an engineer our to service the boiler so perhaps they had set the timer in the boiler to timer.
