Nest Labs (Google Nest?) charging for subscription service without an agreement

Does anyone have experience with Nest Labs/Google/Nest/Google Nest starting to charge for subscription service without notice or an agreement? We have 2 thermostats for about 3 years and no other Nest, etc. products and did not sign up for a subscription. Last year out of the blue we got a charge for $160. Since there are no humans in the Google family, our credit card company fixed it.  Same charge came this year, but Credit Card company wants us to figure it out with Google. We left messages with the online bots and the phone bots, but no bot response. Would welcome any ideas for breaking through.
