I had my nest thermostat (3rd generation) professionally installed 1.5 years ago and has run with no issues until now.
Just recently it shut down for low battery, and now it appears that it won't charge on the wall. I've had to take it off and manually charge it several times just to turn it on but once replaced it shuts down in an hour or so with low battery.
It's connected to wifi, I've reset the wifi several times, and attached/below is a photo of the power screen which seems to fall with the technical specs. I don't have a c-wire for reference.
The only other change/issue is that the dial seems to have a lot of resistance for part of the rotation which it never had before. Not sure if that could be related. I only noticed it when dealing with the battery issue as I normally set the temp from my phone.
Any help is appreciated.

If the battery is failing after only an hour after charging via usb, I would suspect that the battery itself has gone bad. Running without a C wire can cause this as it would only charge when the system is running. Luckily a replacement battery is generally quite affordable and not a hard fix if your a little technically minded.

I'm still under warranty. Is this covered?

Usually batteries are only one year but I'm not a Google employee I'm just a community member. Try giving Google support a call and let them know you've already run through troubleshooting with the Nest forum members.
