Nest Learning Thermostat Back Replacement

The back plate of the control (display) unit has four clips that connect to the base (wall) mount. One of those clips has broken off and the display unit will not stay securely attached to the base. This product is a few years old and is not under warranty, therefore I need to purchase a new back plate and will also need instructions on how to remove the old back and install the new one.

Hi @tomkhoury1,

Thanks for posting here in the community. I'm sorry to hear one of the clips on your Nest Learning Thermostat has broken off and the base is not attached securely. Help's here!

Try the troubleshooting steps here:

  • Purchase a Replacement: While Google doesn't directly sell replacement back plates, you can find them on third-party websites or stores. Make sure the back plate is compatible with your specific Nest Learning Thermostat generation.
  • Turn off Power: Before you begin, turn off the power to your HVAC system at the breaker box.
  • Remove the Display Unit: Gently pull the display unit straight out from the base. I recommend taking a picture of your wiring configuration.
  • Unscrew the Old Back Plate: The back plate should be clipped onto the display unit. You might need a Phillips screwdriver to carefully unscrew it from the clips (be cautious not to damage the display unit).
  • Install the New Back Plate: Simply snap the new back plate onto the display unit, ensuring all clips are secure. Also, you can Visit our Help Center to learn more about Installing your Nest Learning thermostat.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Melany
