Nest Learning Thermostat installed, WiFi detectd; unable to add device to Nest app remotely.

The router is a 2.4GHz network.

The newly installed thermostat is in Arizona.  I'm in California.  Is it possible to add the device to my Samsung phone that's physically 800 miles away?  App controls a recently installed Google Home Mini at the California home.

Thank you.

Hi, Melba.

I'll be heading out to the property in a few weeks to introduce the phone and the thermostat to one another. Hoping they'll pair nicely.

Thank you for your clarification. Take care. - SVS

Add your Nest thermostat to the Nest app - Google Nest Help

Note: You’ll need to be able to touch your thermostat to add it to your account in the Nest app. This means that you won’t be able to add it remotely. After you’ve added your thermostat to your account you’ll be able to use the Nest app on your phone, tablet, or computer to control your thermostat from anywhere.

Hey SunValleySherpa,

Thanks for posting. Yes, you're right on the article you've shared. In order to set up your Nest thermostat, you need to be on the same location where you're installing it. The reason behind is, you will need to touch the display to wake it up and get the Entry Key. Also, you will need to have the set up device which is your mobile phone on the same WiFi network where you want to connect your thermostat.

Hi, Melba.

Thank you for your reply.

A friend provided the Entry Key but I'm still unable to connect.  He said the thermostat displays the house WiFi but no mobile device associated.  I'm guessing I need to be on the same WiFi network when pairing?

Hey there,

Yes, that is right. The mobile device you're using for pairing needs to be on the same WiFi network where you want the thermostat to be connected to which is your home WiFi.
