Nest Learning Thermostat

Purchased a nest learning thermostat today as it was on sale for Black Friday.

Gas furnace, 2 wire R and W. Furnace control board does have terminals for C G Y etc just nothing hooked to them.

The furnace will start once after a restart/reset and ignite. It runs for a couple mins and the flame goes out. Blower continues to run for a few minutes and then stops. The ignition fan then shuts off and immediately clicks on again. From this point on the ignition fan will short cycle and restart over and over again.

I’ve unhooked and rewired to nest a couple times. I’ve charged it via USB for a couple hours and put it back on and same issue. What gives? After charging it had battery voltage of 3.9v.

Installed old Honeywell programmable again and works fine.

I have ordered the Nest Power Connector, for some unknown reason Home Depot in Canada doesn’t sell this. Will installing this solve my issue? Is the thermostat possibly defective?

Need some help please!

Hello BNB187,

Thanks for choosing the Nest Thermostat and I'm sorry for the trouble this may have caused you — let's see what's going on.

It appears that your system might not provide enough power so the thermostat can’t complete a circuit and cause a power issue. The Nest Power Connector can help provide constant power to your thermostat and prevent power loss. Here are some references to help you install a Nest Power Connector on your HVAC system:

Please let me know if that helps.

Best regards,

Mark
