Nest Learning -- fan only

Hi,

Am I crazy, but is Google/Nest completely missing a basic feature that allows one to run the fan independently of selecting Heat or Cool modes?  From the Nest website (this matches my wire configuration):

If there is a wire in your Nest thermostat’s G connecto

  • You can run your system’s fan independently of heating or cooling. So your system doesn’t need to be actively heating or cooling to run the fan.
  • However, you can only run the fan when your thermostat is set to a temperature mode (like Cool mode, for example). You cannot run the fan if your thermostat is set to Off

So the workaround for me is to set it to Cool and then move the temperature to the highest setting (90 degrees) so that the AC doesn't kick in.  It's cold by me here, and I don't want to damage my AC if it turns on unexpectedly.   And in the summer when it's not very hot, if I leave my windows open I risk the AC turning on when I don't want it to.  And since I have a Learning thermostat, wouldn't this workaround impact the "learning"?

This seems like a very easy setting to build and would be helpful for many people.  I don't want to replace my Nest thermostats with a competitor's, but it's an option on the table I guess.

Thx

I have owned the nest for like 9 years now, never had an issue.  The thermostat is never set to "OFF" mode, always on Heat or Cool.  If I dont want AC to run in the summer, I raise the temperature, the nest will learn my preference and I have to adjust it less and less often.

I also have my Fan set to run automatically, There is a Fan Schedule that you can set to run for X number of minutes Each hour, between certain hours of the day.

Give it a shot, its a very good system once it learns your likes \ dislikes.

Thanks. My thermostat is for my AC only (my heat and AC are on systems) so I changed the temperature to 90 so the fan will run as I’ve scheduled it. It does seem a little counterintuitive though, right?
