What’s the lowest temperature that a remote sensor can tolerate? Meaning, can you place it in a covered outdoor area that will get down to zero Fahrenheit?

No, as per the notes for the unit

The sensor is not designed for outdoor use, and you should not place it in an uninsulated room like an attic or basement.
