Nest T'stat Not Working

T'STAT says it needs to shutdown

to recharge battery. Worked perfectly for 6 years. Never got this message before.

There's a USB connection

on back of t'stat. Can that be used to recharge battery? Plugged in low voltage charger and green light is flashing in top of t'stat. Red light never came on indicating recharge needed. Never indicated a problem of any type. It's quite warm on ground floor of my home.

You can charge from the USB, but after 6 years the battery has probably expired. They do fail after time like any type of battery.
