I would like to be able to put in a Temporarily change the temperature setpoint on my thermostat.
Typically I like to be conservative on my energy use. We have the thermostat scheduled to change it's setpoint back during the "High-Energy Peak Hours." So we try to tough it out during that time.
There are multiple times where I would like to just cool the house down really quick, and then shut off and revert back to it's original schedule. I may not want the unit to continuously keep that same setpoint.
Sometimes, if I'm going to go to bed and on that night, our normal bedtime temp setpoint just feels a little too hot. I want to just cool the house down really quick. But my only option is to turn the setpoint down and it remains that setpoint ALL NIGHT until the following morning when it has the next scheduled temperature. I don't need it running ALL NIGHT long. I just want to do a quick pre-cool before I go to bed. And I don't want to have to schedule this every night, or put a temperature schedule for every hour.
We used to have an ecobee thermostat in our last house and it was very simple. I could schedule my normal temperatures, and when I wanted to make an adjustment to the stat, it would ask me, "How would you like to hold this temperature?" You could pick a from a few options. "Until I change it." "Until next scheduled event." or "Until a certain time (and you could pick 1, or 2, or 3 hours...)."
When I tried searching for this on my Nest Learning Thermostat, it looks like this isn't an option. Apparently there's some type of temporary override function in the basic Next thermostat, but NOT the more expensive Learning stat.
What is this? This should be an easy software fix that you could add to an update of the thermostat. I can't believe that this feature isn't available. With how long Nest has been around and how big of a name it is. How come simple features like this aren't available?
I would also like to be able to schedule my settings to 5min increments. Currently I'm stuck with on the hour. So my Peak usage time from 4pm-9pm where I schedule the setpoint higher, if the PG&E time vs. the Nest time are different then there's a short window where I could be getting charged more for running the AC during that time. Ideally, I'd like to be able to setback the temperature for an additional 5min before and 5min after. So from 3:55pm to 9:05pm.
All simple things.

To change the Nest's target temperature just until the next setpoint in your schedule, simply twirl the dial. To change the target temperature permanently (until you purposefully intervene), turn on Eco Mode and set your Eco temperature to whatever you like. I don't think the Nest has that third option, of deviating from the schedule for a specific period of time.
