Nest Thermostat Auto-Schedule is 'Off' but Nest still raises temp setting in the middle of the night

I like it cold at night, but Nest thinks I'm more interested in saving money. I've gone through every setting to make nest a 'dumb' thermostat but it seems to be winning.

Is there a way to command Nest to accept my set temperature and make it cold?

I'm expecting Nest Engineers to say 'do a reset.' So then is there a way to have Nest reset itself every day since its so smart 😉 I thought only Microsoft products need to be reset daily 😉

Thank you. This is solved. Solution was to delete all the auto-schedule points. After doing that thermostat would run simply based on manual temperature setting and no longer change in the middle of the night. Thanks everyone.

Did you get your thermostat from any kind of energy program, like from your local gas company?

This Rush Hour program automatically enrolls you when you purchase a Nest thermostat but it’s difficult to opt out. 

Not entirely accurate, the opt-in varies by state and provider, auto enrollment is not typical and does not happen if you buy your thermostat at retail. But it is true getting out of the program can be a pain. 

Wish you were right but in this case Texas is an automatic opt in state. It was all over the news. 

Link? All my searches say it's opt-in, but I could be wrong.  Retail thermostats with smart features are not normally opted in.   And the OP doesn't mention what state they are from so may not be relevant.

Good question, but 'no', this appears to be off the shelf from big box store. Electric bill does not show any program or list our equipment. Nest energy programs appear off.

From the article, it was opt-in.

Exactly, as stated, it’s an automatic opt in due to an agreement with smart thermostat not with the consumer. It was just because I purchased a smart thermostat 😳

That is not correct, it's only automatic if the thermostat was acquired from your local gas/energy company. Otherwise you have to purposely opt in. Retail units do not automatically opt into the program.

Folks, I thought I saw someone post a solution when I was reading email on my phone but now I don't see it in the forum--strange.

The solution was to clear the auto-schedule 'bookmarks' (not sure what they're really called). My problem was that I misunderstood what 'auto-schedule' feature meant. I had 'Auto-Schedule' set to off, thinking that would not attempt to auto-schedule the thermostat setting. Apparently that is not how it works, although I could not find this documentation anywhere. Instead, 'Auto-Schedule' when turned on will capture the user's thermostat settings automatically. Once those settings are captured in the auto-schedule, there is no way to turn them off unless you delete  them. I would not have expected it to behave this way. I would have thought Nest would give users the opportunity to create a schedule, save it, and turn it on and off at will.

If some one thinks I do not understand this correctly please reply. In any case, once I deleted the auto-schedule bookmarks my thermostat reverted to being a 'dumb' thermostat again. Thank you to whoever suggest that--thought it was marsneedstacos but I cannot find the post!
