Nest Thermostat - Cannot turn Hot water heating off

szaszasz
Community Member

I have the same problemlike fredu1 (his conversation(topic)).

It is with a Viesmann CombiBoiler.

Was it fixed the problem?

Is there a new update (software)

The hot water constantly get heated (not for heating) even when we are sleeping. The nest keeps the combiboiler to constantly heat the water above 40C. We are not using the water and even midnight the boiler starts (not for heating the room) to heat the water which we dont use it

I can wait for water to come when i have demand on it but when i don't have i don't want to start for heating unneceseraly. (Wasting energy and gas)

I need a fix for this!

I want to have the option on my nest to turn off the hot water heating (unless on demand)

Have you checked to see if Bacteria is disabled. Turn off if enabled.

Have you checked for any software updates or integrity garage contacted the manufacturer for assistance? It's important to optimize energy usage, especially when heating water unnecessarily.

My thermostat is up to date 5.9.5-2

I don't have option to see the bacteria option

You don’t have the option!!

Have you looked in the settings - Equipment  - Bacteria ??

I haven't done anything because i didn't know that it s needs to work like this or not

This is a process of elimination to see if the H/W is causing your issue.

When I have issues I search to find if anyone has had a similar problem!!

I don't have such az option

What is the hot water temp, have you found anything there that might solve your issue?

Just the water temp, for the tap water.

That’s a new one on me! Where you have water temp it’s usually Bacteria! Can you disable that? Perhaps even raise or lower the temperature. That could be the problem if the setting is too high or to low.

Failing that, best idea would be to get the expert back as they installed the system.

I tried but to rise and low the water temperature, but it keeps the water warm

Can that setting be turned off?

Mods the user needs help with this setting, is this normal for a display to have Hot Water Temp instead of bacteria?

NO 😞 and i think that is the problem

I'm familiar with UK thermostats, and to be honest didn't think they were any different from Europe. I don't have that Hot water, we have Bacteria. Let's see if one of the mods can help

I think they are the same, connected via Heat Link.

So... i can't really what's the situation with mine.

Thank you for the answer.

Hope the mods will see soon this post 🙂

Yes they are the same, but it’s that Water Temp I have not seen before. Can you try and factory reset again. That might alter something in the setup.

I assume you set the thermostat up as a Combi boiler?

You can alter that setting in Equipment - Pro setup, but I would probably do full factory reset to confirm everything is correct.

I tried but nothing has changed.. 😞

Thank you for posting. I´m sorry that any of the previous steps didn´t work. This could be frustrating when you can´t turn it off even at night. @Frustratedddd, I really appreciate the assistance. Help´s here.

Please review the following article to manually turn off the heating. There are a few options to manually disconnect the heating.

Let me know if you need more assistance.

I mean, the heating is OK, the Heatlink is connected well, but there isn't any option to turn off the water heating (preheating)

Hi szaszasz,

Thank you for posting. I´m sorry that the previous link doesn´t work, as you mentioned that the heating is OK and the heat link is connected. Not to worry, let me check other options.

In many cases, the Nest thermostat should be able to control water temperature with a combi boiler that’s OpenTherm-compliant. You can turn up the water temperature in the winter for a warmer bath or shower and turn it down in the summer for better comfort in hot weather and to help save energy.

However, because OpenTherm standards can vary, the boiler might not be able to do this. If this is the case, you should be able to set the water temperature manually on the combi boiler.

This might vary depending on your system and whether it is available to turn off and on. Here is the article on OpenTherm and what Nest thermostats can do with it. There are a few recommendations to check and consider for your system.

Let me know if this helps.

Regards,

Byron

Hello,

I can set up the water temperature between 40-60C this is OK.

I have constantly preheated water in my combi boiler, the system doesn't ler is fall under 40C.

The problem is that i can'T turn off this function.,

Because at midnight i don t use water and there is an energy usage what i really don't use.

I don't want to have preheated water, i only want water to be hot when i have demand of it.( i can wait to the water get heated when i need to)
