Nest Thermostat E has short green flashes then longer orange flash

I have a Nest E thermostat with a sensor in our bathroom to control the in-floor heat. The thermostat is set to always refer to the sensor as the thermostat is located near a towel heater and gives an inaccurate temperature reading.

A number of messages have been appearing on my phone.

One is "The system is running a lot". However, when I look at History, it shows a few minutes per day.

One is "The sensor is out of range". However, when I look at the thermostat, it shows (accurately) the temperature of the sensor and the sensor is within six feet of the thermostat.

The thermostat has given me messages to disconnect then reattach to the base. This I have done.

Now, the light at the top of the dial gives a series of green flashes and then a longer orange flash, cycling every 15 seconds or so.

While the thermostat is set at 23 degrees with the temperature showing 22 or below, the heat doesn't come on regularly (it does appear to come on intermittently.

Ideas?

Hi Jake:

Thanks for following up.  I contacted Nest support and spent quite some time troubleshooting with them.    It was eventually determined that the thermostat was defective so I will be replacing it.

Peter
