Nest Thermostat Holder

I've just spent 20 minutes on with Google support and I still don't have an answer to my question, I hope someone can help.

I have a wall mounted nest thermostat at the moment -- I'd like to be able to relocate this to different rooms as and when needed (I'll turn off the learning function).  To do this, I'll put it in a cradle/holder but the bit that is very unclear is - Do I need to remove the mount, that the thermostat 'clicks' onto, which is currently screwed into the wall?

At the moment, when you remove the thermostat from the wall I immediately get a message that says 'to use attach to base' or something along those lines.... so logic would say I need to physically remove the base unit.

I've seen videos online where people seem to have their nest thermostat, seemingly working yet not plugged into anything at all!? so I'm very confused what to do.

Any advice really appreciated, thank you.

Hi pjuk79,

Thanks for reaching out to us. To relocate your Nest Thermostat to different rooms, use a cradle or holder instead of removing the wall mount base. The base serves as a connection point for the thermostat, providing power and communication. When removing the thermostat from the wall, a message prompts you to attach it to the base, as it is where the electrical connections and communication with your HVAC system occur. The videos of the thermostat seemingly working without being plugged in may be misleading, as it requires the base to be connected to power and communicate with your HVAC system. To relocate the thermostat, detach it from the existing base and attach it to a different base or cradle in another room, as long as the new base or cradle has a secure connection with the Nest Thermostat and is properly powered.

Let us know if that helps.

Best,

Zoe
