Nest Thermostat - N261

Hi!

I have a nest thermostat that I just installed. It worked for about 2 hours with the N261 error before it stopped working all together.

the power information is:

Vin: 28.3V (seems okay)

Iin: 18 (seems very low and the root cause of the problem)

PS: C-18

what does this mean? A Google tech support suggested a nest power connector but I do have a C-wire and I’m getting enough voltage. What could be causing the low current (assuming that’s what Iin is)

Hi Luciaalopez,

Thanks for reaching out to our community.

Power values on your nest thermostat can get complicated, but don't worry, I'm here to help.

If you have a C wire, its main function is to provide consistent power to the thermostat for proper operation and battery charging. Additionally, it helps prevent sudden changes in your LIN values.

With a C wire connected, ensure it's providing enough consistent power. Check the entire length of the wire for any corrosion and verify there are no loose or incorrect connections on both the thermostat and the HVAC system.

While installing a Nest Power Connector is an option, for a successful Nest Thermostat installation, it's best to consult an HVAC technician. They can measure the current output from your HVAC transformer and diagnose the problem more accurately, determining if a power connector is the best solution.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Angel.
