Nest Thermostat Turns On--Don't know why!

Hello,

I posted this previously, but didn't reply in time, and the post was closed. I checked the History as Edward T (Community Specialist) advised, but that did not give me any insight. I have turned the downstairs thermo off to keep the problem from reoccurring.

Thank you.

My house has two Nest Learning thermostats, one for upstairs, one for downstairs. Every night at 11:00pm the downstairs heater comes on, at 77 degrees.

The schedule is NOT set to go on anywhere close to 11:00pm, and is not set to 77 degrees. Only the downstairs heater does this.

Yesterday I removed ALL schedules, and entered new ones. I set my heaters for 63 degrees at 2am and 6 pm. We don't use the heater much (we're in Southern California) and this works as a failsafe to assure it doesn't get left on too long.

This just started a few weeks ago. The settings for both thermostats have not been changed since we moved here two years ago. No one else but me has access to the settings.

Any ideas as to what could cause this?

Thanks!

Richard

try closing the nest and google app on ALL devices, and reopen.

I'm having a similar problem. My learning nest sets the temperature to 24deg every morning around 1am unprompted. I have cleared the schedule and reset new times as well as checking the time settings. However the problem continues unnecessarily running up my gas bill.

I am experiencing the same type of problem. Upstairs and Downstairs Nests. No issue with Upstairs,  but Downstairs has been turning itself on, off schedule, around midnight, 1 AM, 2 AM, 3 AM, and 4 AM.  We are in the Phoenix area,  so our mode now is Heat, and max schedule is set to 66 to take the chill off of colder days, and at 5 PM moves to 60 for the night as the house cools off.  Since sometime in December,  the Downstairs Nest ignores the schedule and jumps to 72 degrees after midnight.

I've locked the Nest, and still the phantom adjustment came on, I reset the schedule, but it still starts heating after midnight,  so now we have to turn the mode from Heat to Off before going to bed.    This is the first problem with the Nest thermostat since it was installed several years ago.

For me, it's happening only once per night, but the problem still occurs. We've taken to turning the heat off, just as you have.

Hello folks,

I'm sorry for the late reply and for the trouble this may have caused everyone. I appreciate all the steps you've taken, and I wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Could you tell us what type of Nest thermostats you all have? Disabling Home/Away Assist will prevent it from switching to or overriding Eco mode. Check the Home/Away Routines in the Google Home app; you might have one created and overlooked for a while. If there is, remove it from the routines. Also, for the Nest Learning Thermostats or Nest Thermostat E, disable the auto-schedule so your thermostats won't randomly change their temperatures.

Keep us posted on how it goes.

Thanks,

Mark

I turned off Home/Away assist, will check tonight to see if it happens. I have two Nest Learning Thermostats (2nd Gen), one for upstairs, one for downstairs. This is happening only on the downstairs unit. Auto-schedule has been disabled for a long time, and I just verified that it still is.

Hi Richard,

Sounds like a plan! Thanks for disabling the Home/Away Assist. So, please keep me updated on how things progress, and I'd love to know what the outcome is.

Best,

Mark

I also disabled the Home away Assist and still the thermostat turned on to 72 at midnight as if scheduled when the actual schedule is set to 58.  The auto schedule feature on this learning nest has long been set to off.

Still can't find a way around this other than to change mode to Off at night.
