Nest Thermostat always says low battery even if batteries are brand new

Hello my Nest Thermostat says Battery is low all the time. Even when we put in a new Battery.

There is a C wire in the system, even had a Tech come out and make sure all wires are done right. But we still get the message.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for posting. I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing this situation with your Nest thermostat that is showing low battery problems. But don't worry, I can help. In this case, I just need to ask for some information before providing any steps:

  1. What type of Nest thermostat do you have?
  2. When was it installed?
  3. Do you have more than one thermostat? If there's more than one thermostat, does the issue show up on the other thermostats too?
  4. Is the thermostat display on a stand?
  5. Do you ever take it off the stand to charge it?
  6. How do you charge it? Directly from the power outlet?
  7. When did the issue start?
  8. Is there a wiring report or error message on your thermostat and/or app?
  9. Do you see a blinking LED light?

Once I have this information, I can provide the best solution to this situation.

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jenny

Hi Jennifer,

The type of Nest thermostat I have is the Nest Thermostat.  The model is Model: Thermostat-1.4

It was installed 2 years ago

No, I don't have more than one thermostat?

The Nest Thermostat is not made to be put on a stand

The Nest Thermostat does not require charging, it is connected to the C wire and has batteries.

The problem started about 5 months ago.

There is no other errors other than Low battery

There are no lights on the Nest Thermostat.

Hi jnosborn,

Thanks for your replay and for all the information provided. I understand that your thermostat was having this problem 5 months ago, and you already changed the batteries. Please check this recommendation:

Try to change the batteries once again.

Use only high-quality 1.5 V AAA alkaline batteries from a known manufacturer.

  1. Pull the thermostat display off the base.
  2. Remove the old batteries from the back of the thermostat display and clean the contact where the batteries are going to be set.
  3. Insert the 2 new AAA alkaline batteries.
  4. Push the thermostat display back onto the base until it clicks into place, make sure that the pin connectors on the thermostat are in good condition, and check that all the wires are correctly inserted on its terminals.

Please let me know how that goes. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,

Jenny
