Are Nest thermostats commonly controlled by management in large apartment complexes? I just moved to a new apartment last month and the temps have been too high for me and I want to change it to manual control but it is already connected to an account and I have not been successful in doing so but I want to delete the account. I have already deleted all the old data but now it won't turn on until an arbitrary temp which the thing itself chooses, first it was 78, then 73, then 76. It's driving me nuts. AC is off and heat will not start until I set the thermostat to whatever temp the white dot is next to.

Hello bobyoung53,
Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry. I'd be happy to take a look into this for you.
I understand the frustration you're experiencing with your Nest Thermostat in your new apartment. In large apartment complexes, it's not uncommon for management to have control over the thermostat settings to maintain a consistent temperature throughout the building.
To gain control over your thermostat, an Account Connection reset or a factory data reset should allow you to link it to your own account. You can find these options in the Reset settings on your thermostat device. Once it has been removed, you can initially setup the thermostat and control it with or without having it set up in an account.
In the meantime, make sure to disable the auto-schedule or clear all schedules created. Let us know if you need more help.
Best regards,
Mark
