I have an old house with only a white and black wire. Do any of the Nest thermostats work with the two wires? I’d like to control the thermostat via wifi, so would be great to be able to connect.

Yes, some Nest thermostats, such as the Nest Thermostat E, are compatible with two-wire systems. However, compatibility can vary based on specific wiring configurations and HVAC systems. It's advisable to check Nest's compatibility checker or consult a professional to confirm suitability for your setup.

I checked the compatibility checker and it didn't help. I guess I'll have to call an HVAC company to assist.

Hello folks,
Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry.
@smithraaj, I appreciate your input here.
@Rbcat83, it's possible to use a Nest Thermostat with just two wires (white and black), but it depends on your specific HVAC system. Generally, Nest Thermostats are designed to work with a common wire (C-wire) for stable power and Wi-Fi connectivity. However, if your system doesn't have a C-wire, we have the Nest Power Connector as an alternative option.
Before making any changes, always turn off the power to your HVAC system, and it would be better if you could tell us how the wires are being labeled by posting a picture of your existing thermostat's wiring set up and tell us the make and model of your HVAC system.
I'll look forward to your response.
Regards,
Mark
