Nest Thermostat is set to turn heating off at night but the heating keeps coming on even though

Hello. I Appreciate that  a number of people have had this issue but I can't see a solution.

We have had a Nest Thermostat for a few years now and experience really odd patterns with it. Currently even though it is set to turn the boiler off at night the boiler comes on even though Nest still says it is off and shows no history of heating during the night, however the heating will be on full and the house will be very warm. I have to turn the boiler off on the boiler to stop the heating.

This only seams to happen at night and during the colder months.

I have the Nest set as follows:

Home/Away  Assist On

Auto Schedule Off

True Radiant Off

Sunblock in - Ready

Leaf On

Eco Temp 9C

Safety Temp 5C

The schedule each day is set as follows:

8am - 19C

9am - 9C

5pm - 19C

10pm - 9C

Hi Andy1965,

Yikes! I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with your Nest Thermostat. It sounds like there may be some unexpected behavior occurring during the night when the thermostat is set to turn off the boiler. Here are a few troubleshooting steps and considerations that may help resolve the issue:

  1. Verify that the wiring connections between your Nest Thermostat and the boiler are correct and secure. Loose or incorrect wiring could result in unpredictable behavior. Ensure that the wires are properly seated in their respective terminals and that there are no loose connections or frayed wires.
  2. Double-check the nighttime schedule on your Nest Thermostat. Ensure that the temperature is set to 9°C during the desired timeframe, and there are no conflicting or overlapping schedule entries. If necessary, modify the schedule to ensure it aligns with your desired heating and cooling patterns.
  3. The Eco Temperature setting of 9°C may be triggering the boiler to heat the house during the night. The Eco mode allows the temperature to drift lower to save energy, but it doesn't necessarily mean the heating is completely off. Try disabling the Eco mode temporarily to see if it resolves the issue. If the problem no longer occurs, you can adjust the Eco Temperature setting or consider using a different mode that suits your preferences.
  4. While the Sunblock feature is designed to prevent your thermostat from heating your home unnecessarily when it's exposed to direct sunlight, it may not be directly related to the nighttime heating issue you're experiencing. However, it's worth considering whether the placement of your thermostat is exposed to any sources of heat or sunlight that could be affecting its temperature readings and triggering the boiler.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe

Many thanks for this.

Re the first point  Thermonstat is wireless and I don 't think I have the technical ability to check wiring. It was professionally installed

Yes I have checked point 2

Yes I understand the point about the Eco setting but it has been heating the house a night when the temperature read over 20C

No the location is away from sunlight and other heat sources
