Nest and Smart Meter Inconsistency

KWilson22

I have a mystery.  I am away from home and set Nest to Eco 16deg.  For the last 2 days my smart meter Hugo app has been showing occasional gas usage 2-3 bursts a day (I would expect this as it has been cold). However my Nest history shows No Usage for these 2 days.

So which use right and why the inconsistency?

If anyone can help I'd appreciate it

Note: it's not to do with the standing charge as I'm only looking at kWh and it's not a leak as it only shows up in bursts..

Hi KWilson22,

Uh-oh! I'm sorry to hear the inconsistency between the gas usage shown in your smart meter app and the lack of usage recorded in your Nest history can be puzzling. The smart meter app and Nest history may experience data delays, causing discrepancies in recorded gas usage timing. The app may use different measurement intervals or sampling rates, causing variations in reported usage. The app and Nest history may also interpret and display gas usage data differently due to different algorithms or methods. Additionally, there is a possibility that one of the systems, the smart meter or Nest thermostat, is not accurately measuring or reporting gas usage due to technical issues or calibration discrepancies. These issues could lead to inaccurate gas usage reporting.

To ensure accurate gas usage, contact your energy provider for insights and clarification. Ensure your smart meter and Nest app are updated with the latest software versions to address bugs or improve data reporting accuracy. Compare gas usage data from both apps with previous periods to identify patterns or discrepancies.

Let us know if that helps.

Best,

Zoe
