Nest baseplate at it again

I had this same issue 2 years ago. After a solid 2 years of operating fine, the nest baseplate craps out and fails to provide enough voltage to the AC to switch over the compressor from the heat pump to the cooling side. So as my system runs all day trying to cool my house, it's instead heating the house more and more, putting my you g children at risk of over hearing.

Since it's been over 2 years, I'm out of warranty, and I'll have to fork over $250 more to get a replacement as I can't wait for over a week for eBay to ship a part Google knows is defective (just Google search nest base failures and you get so many results). When is Google going to assure quality in it's product and send us who have defective products replacements?

Hi Niceberg,

Thanks for posting and sorry to hear about this situation with your Nest Thermostat base. No worries, help's here! I'd like to gather a little bit more information to get a better picture of your case.

  1. Do you have a C-WIRE connected?
  2. What's the C-WIRE voltage the thermostat is receiving? You can check it with a voltmeter.
  3. Can I get a photo or description of your current wiring?

In advance if your thermostat is heating instead of cooling, here are some steps to Troubleshoot strange heating or cooling behavior.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Axel.

Hi Axel.

I bought a new one because I couldn't wait with hot weather coming in. I had a C wire and it was supplying 24v.

I have Y1, W, G, OB, and R wired. I removed the C wire as it's noted it can run without it.
