Nest changes itself.

When I set the temp on my Nest to 77, I'm happy with the indoor temp, especially at night. But my Nest keeps lowering itself down to 74 and kicking the A/C on for no reason. And it happens at night when the temps are dropping. Why????

What method are you using to set the Nest to 77?  If, for example, you simply twirl the dial to 77 (or click the little up and down buttons on screen), that is a temporary instruction.  The Nest will aim at 77 only until the next set point in its schedule.  You didn't mention whether you've set up a schedule, but even if not, the Nest probably has a default one in there.  You want to edit its set points and temperatures to your liking.

First, though, make sure you turn off the "smart" features  --  Home/Away Assist and presence sensing  --  and that Eco Mode is also off.  For troubleshooting, you always want to keep things simple.

I've read all the replies, and still I'm having an issue. Just last night the temps were very cool overnight and I set the temp to 76 degrees so I wouldn't need the air to turn on at all. But while I was in bed around 11:00 the air automatically turned on and I checked the Nest and it had lowered the temp to 74 on it's own. This problem is maddening. When I set it to a certain temp, I want it to stay at that temp.

I apologize if I don't understand what you're saying, but the most likely explanation for your Nest's behavior (changing to 74 at 11PM) is that the Nest has a schedule set up in it.  The schedule has various set points (times and temperatures), one of which calls for 74 at 11PM.  You need to modify the schedule.  If you just turn the dial or press the arrow buttons, the Nest still reverts to that schedule at the next set point.
