Nest compatibility page says a K wire is OK, but Google Home app says it isn't

I bought a Nest thermostat through my utility.  Over the past several years, I've been watching to find a smart thermostat that is compatible with a K wire.  Finally, the Nest product page said that the Nest is compatible with the K wire.  My Nest arrived and I started the install process.  As it went through the wires in the Goggle Home app, it didn't have any options for a K wire and it said my system is not compatible.  

So, which is wrong?  The Google Nest compatibility site or the Google Home app?

Same problem here. Obviously they are not monitoring this forum, and answering customer’s questions.
